First Snow

I woke up this morning to this...

Definitely not on my birthday wish list!

Copper Mine Adventure

Since Crystal, Matt and Camarae are in town for a wedding and had a day to spare I decided to take the day off on Friday to spend some time with them. We went to the Kennecott Copper Mine here in Salt Lake City. They mine 17% of the world's copper and supply Tiffany & Co with all their gold and silver. I believe it's the world's largest open mine...it was an awesome sight.

This is a wheel from one of the big machines. Wow, it's bigger than a tractor.

The open mine...I don't think you can even see all the way to the bottom.

I HAVE NEW BRAKES!!!

As a citizen of our country, safety is my first priority when driving.  I like to protect other citizens from crazy driving.  So lately my brakes have been shaking pretty bad when I drive.  Which is not fun at all and frankly endangers others on the road when you're in a tight squeeze!  (haha) So Jake told me to go to Les Schwabs and have my brakes checked.  I did and my driver side front brakes were .8 something and legal limit where you HAVE to change is .32 or something.  You get the idea!  Then Jake made me go to Checkers by myself!  Do you know what they do to girls when they are there alone?  They stalk them and constantly banter them with questions b/c a girl can't possibly know what they are doing at Checkers!  Actually the guy that helped me was really nice and got me brakes for my car that cost 26 dollars!!  And they wanted to charge me 280 at Les Schwabs to get new brakes!  I got my brakes and it took a week for Jake to have time to install them but on my way to get a break change, I picked up 5 qt. of oil and a new oil filter.  So on the beautiful freezing day of October 9th, Jake put new brakes on my car, Ruby, and gave her an oil change.  It started raining when I got to his house and then quickly changed to snow.  I tried to get a good picture but who knows if you can really see the white flakes.  They were sure big though!!  Our first snow of the year!  It was a whopping 38 degrees while I sat outside and kept Jake company during the renovations on Ruby.  She is working good now!!!  And it saved me a ton of money!  The driver side brake pad was metal on metal, no wonder it shook so bad!  The other side was still pretty nice which was a relief.  But now it's new and ready to go!!!
